I can imagine that these questions will come off as my being a pain in the butt and a troublemaker. However, I really intend these to be honest questions that will hopefully help us grow and mature as an organization. OK, here goes...

Why is it that the UBBQA is still working on its competition schedule, with April fast approaching, when most of the other regional associations have had their schedules finalized (or near finalized) by now? How are we cooks supposed to plan our schedules when we don't even know what regional contests are on the books, or will be?

Again, I'm just a cook that wants to know what the UBBQA schedule is. I have to weave my competitions into my work, home and family vacation schedules. I want to support the organization, but it's really hard when almost every contest is a "more to come" or on late notice.

Thanks for listening,

Just a suggestion would be if there was place we could see the schedule, see a pdf for the application and what ever info would be helpful for us to know. It may be there, I just don't see it.

Over all a great site and it is more then I could ever do!

Very much appreciate the site and info,

Stoneman Idea
Most likely it's because of who is organizing the events, both inside Utah and outside Utah.

The events inside Utah are:

5th & 6th June Wild West Showdown, State fair grounds SLC. KCBS

19th & 20th June Grill on the Hill, Snowbird. SL County? KCBS

7th & 8th August Fire Water and Ice, Kearns.

21th & 22nd August, Rock and Ribs, Gallivan Center, SLC KCBS

18th & 19th September, Pleasant Grove Kiwanis Cookoff

The place for the schedule is the Calendar, <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.utahbbq.org/calendar.php">http://www.utahbbq.org/calendar.php</a><!-- m --> as yet there is no information other than for Grill on the Hill, all the events that I have information on are on there already, for Utah, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Nevada, California, Arizona, Oregon.

Here's another thread about the schedule <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.utahbbq.org/viewtopic.php?t=1761">http://www.utahbbq.org/viewtopic.php?t=1761</a><!-- m -->
SOEZZY, can we clarify the dates for Fire, Water and Ice? You list it as Aug 7-8 but the thread shows Lyle posting it as Aug 14-15. I'll need to find out the correct date so I can plan accordingly. Smile

Yes, it's the lack of solid information for the UBBQA competitions that I am referencing. I have heard a lot of rumors and partial information, but nothing solid. When can I expect the UBBQA 2009 competition schedule to be finalized?

Don't get me wrong. I am very well aware that there is a ton of stuff that has to happen behind the scenes to bring things together. I am not at all trying to trivialize or marginalize those efforts. However, there comes a time when a full schedule should be available for planning purposes.

I'm guessing it should be sorted out by 12/31/09 if not sooner! :lol:

Nice! Big Grin

So Ezzy, thanks and isn't great to be in charge of something for free! Big Grin

We all do appreciate your effort and time in what seems to be a thankless job sometimes.

Thanks again!

I think the best way to address the questions will be in the order they are asked.

“Why are we still working on our schedule?â€
Today we were joined by Jim Reidenbaugh the CEO and his lovely mother from Northwest Events LLC. For those of you that don't know who this cat is, they put on Big Boy Toy Expo, and the Eagle Rib Cook-Off just to name a few. Last year they were perfect host to the teams that showed up for the Eagle cook-off and his whole staff did an outstanding job. I encourage any cooks that are thinking of attending this year to please do so. Jim said that it will be bigger and better than last year. I really enjoyed the quality time with Jim and his mother, Sampson she too was trying to get my cole slaw recipe LOL.

Is Jim putting together the Eagle Rib Cookoff for this year? Do we have a date for this event?
Labor Day weekend, Fri-- Mon ( monday Turn-in)

Three day cook? I may be able to make this time line. Gotta go find my notes from pork shoulder that took over 30 hours.
I do recall having a few stall out on me,and ended up being 24-25 hour cook, hear at home of course :wink:

Apps for rib fest and such are posted at <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://idahoribs.com/forms.html">http://idahoribs.com/forms.html</a><!-- m -->
This is one that you need vend at! Last year every vendor sold out every day. $$$$$
BUT, go prepared with enough help for vending and for competing. This along with the GC money, you go home a big winner. Fantastic contest! John
:twisted: That's a perfect photo of Jim "T"! His phone permanently fixed to his ear.(Usually talking to me about some new attraction he has dreamed up). I told him last Tuesday I wasn't going to take calls from him any longer. They all spell work!
Seriously, I spoke with him this morning and he couldn't say enough about the food and the company yesterday at Q4U.
This years Eagle BBQ and Spudfest will indeed be better than ever. Truly "one of a kind" Grand and Reserve Grand Champion trophies. The competition venue moved to the "horseshoe". Increased vending area and increased beer garden area. Better parking closer to the venue, live entertainment designed to get things hopping, etc, etc, :twisted:
