Not mine dang it. Sad Pork butts. In a recent study, today, I started with 28.77# of pork butts. 7.23#, 7.03#. 7.46#, 7.05#. Precooked weight according to the package weight. After they were done to a 203* pull-a-part temperature, I weighed them again and came up with 18.5# resulting in a loss of 10.27#. That's approx 2.5# per butt loss. I trimmed some fat off after I removed them from the shrink wrap packaging, so for ease of figuring .77# trimmed weight. Still, a 9.5# loss. They cooked approx. 9.5 hrs at a pretty steady 275*. I did sleep ya know, one can do that with a Traeger while it's doing its thing. Isn't a 2.4 # loss each, approx. a bit much? That's a 1/3 of the package weight. Whooeee. Whoda thunk?
Is this what you guys/gals notice also?
You are doing pretty well to get such a low loss and high yield.

I reckon that the way I pull pork for the family I average about 55% yield, so from 28.77 I'd have expected around 16 - 17 lbs and a 45% loss.

You're doing well if you ask me!
Ditto. That is not bad for a pork butt.
Gotta agree with these guys Gene. When I calculate for an event, I figure 50% loss just to be safe...
Well, la di da. I'm on track then. Big Grin Wohoo! The guys & gals devoured those 4 butts. I'm pretty sure it was some of the attendees 1st taste of American style BBQ. The Eastern N.C. sauce was a total hit with my bosses boss. Wouldn't ya know, he's a N.C. native. Smile My boss held some pulled pork back for his ocean fishin' trip today. (Sat) I took pics too. Just can't get 'em to take here. Dave , Sampson, et. al. coming at ya.
Arigato tomodachi. (thanks friends)
Posted the above picture for Gene!

I'm doing the research on electroshock therapy training... once I get it figured out Gene will be able to post his own pictures!
Look'in good Gene!
Ya think? That'd be good. Thanks Chris. That was two I did earlier, not the 4 I did yesterday, if anyone caught the math.
