First time team - mattsmulligan - 11-24-2013 04:29 PM
I had posted in another section then found this one... I would like to find a couple other people interested in forming a team for competitions this up coming season.
I'm in Midvale, Comment or send me a message. I'm pretty open to any ideas.

Sorry Matt, you are a little to far South for us. Moving up North anytime soon?
RE: First time team - mattsmulligan - 11-25-2013 01:08 PM
Not planning on moving North... I'm not sure what would work best for putting a team together. It would be nice to have some experience on board but I'm certainly not afraid to go through the growing pains with a couple other newbies like myself...
Any suggestions or words of wisdom would certainly be welcomed. I have found a lot of great information on the forum so far...

Find folks that you get along with, that live close enough that dropping in and cooking something isn't a pain.
If you have a wife and kids, find folks with similar aged kids that will play with yours, if you're an empty nester and like having kids around, that works too.
Decide which type of team you want:
Style 1) You rule the roost and everyone works to your plan, you take the reins and the costs.
Style 2) Everyone puts forward their best cooking efforts, you compare and the best of each meat goes, run on a share the cost or on one persons dime.
Style 3) Everyone puts in the same money, everyone picks a meat and cooks that meat, combines on those meats that no one person claimed, everyone shares in the winnings.
You can all cook on your own pits, but if one person has a trailer / truck / toy hauler that can carry the load it's easier than 3 or 4 trucks / cars finding space at a contest.
It's a great way to compete as part of a team that you can work well with, no matter which type of team you choose to play in!

SoEzzy... Thank you for the reply and suggestions..
I'm hoping to find like minded people... I just want to do this for fun. 35, married, young kids, full-time career. It would be nice to have people to split costs, experience, make sure there are people to travel etc. I think 4 guys would do it...

Those were some great ideas from SoEzzy... We would love to see some more teams come out & cook!

Those are all good systems. Stile 3 I find works best. Everyone wants to do the big meats and no one likes chicken lol. However input from everyone and truly playing as a team only works if the egos are in check.

Like farming I think the best way to do this would be to win the Powerball. Then continue competing until the money is all gone.

I'll take a portion of that Gene, as soon as can be arranged please!
