I have an old crabapple tree in my yard that has surpassed it's expiration. Has anyone tried using this wood in a smoker? Have looked around a little bit and can't find anything that mentions it. I am guessing that since crabapples are sour and bitter that the smoke would probably net the same results, but if it is something that would work, I would like to try it.

Any thoughts?

Try something that won't break the bank like some chicken legs. Then we'll all know. Maybe I'll hit on someone to make crabapple pellets for my rig if the legs turn out ok. :wink:

They say you can use it on the smoke ring and that is similar to ordinary apple wood.

Season it and use it is what I say... and let us know if there are any adverse effects... please! :shock:

Just joking there are 19 threads about using it on the smoke ring, and none warning against its use!
