RE: CBJ Classes
I would like to have a class for the local judges for our BBQ Competition in June. How soon would I need the judges committed and when would the class be? What would the cost be for the participants and for us?

There will not be another class unless we get a lot of interest.

The two contests that are possible for classes are the Fire, Water and Ice, and the Rock n' Ribs.

If people are interested in another CBJ class this year, please add your names to this thread or email me, SoEzzy.

Tooele would be interested in having a couple of people attend a judging class. Keep us in mind.

I've got 2 guys here that are willing to drive down for the class. I'd be willing to help as a "table captain" or in any other capacity that you'd need.

RE: CBJ Classes
The KCBS CBJ class is generally run in conjunction with a KCBS contest, with the instructor attending an extra day early, (their choice), or two days earlier, (our choice), due to the fact that often the person that cooks for the class will spend all day doing it, then go into the competition the day after, and cook for the competition, (it makes for a very long three days)!

As there may not be a KCBS contest in the state this year, it makes the class a bigger expense as all the accommodation, flights, and transportation around the area, needs to be funded.

These are the nearest classes.

RE: CBJ Classes
When is the next class? I know 3 people that would like to take the class. What is the cost of the class? After you have been certified do you have to take a class every year?

I'll start an "interest" thread. When we have over 20 who express said interest, we'll set a date and see how many can make it. Then we'll get a venue, volunteers and vittlers (cookers; Sorry, the alliteration was too good to pass up Rolleyes ). Utah BBQ charges $40, $20 for current members. With their tuition, non-members become members for the year. You become conversant and taste-tested in the Kansas City BBQ Society criteria for judging. You do not, however, become KCBS certified; you will be Utah BBQ Org. certified. You will get the same priority to judge Utah BBQ Org. contests as KCBS judges do here, but not for KCBS contests (if a KCBS contest is short judges, you would probably be welcomed, though). When you see how much fun (and tasty!) judging is, you will probably become a KCBS judge when there is a class convenient to you. Both certifications are permanent. KCBS certification is revoked if you let your membership lapse but would be reinstated if you re-join.
