First Dutch Oven Cook
First Cornbread Cook: This was T's recipe, Thanks T............

Mix going in the Dutch Oven
[Image: P7010157.jpg]
Coals cooking away
[Image: P7010158.jpg]
Finished cornbread
[Image: P7010159.jpg]
All fresh veggies with T's rub on them with the cornbread
[Image: P7010161.jpg]

Guess it came out good for the first try to cook in the DO. I added some southwest corn to the mix cook. Not a burned spot nowhere but it did take 50 minutes to cook.

Watch out T, I can run contest, sell Ole Hickory Smokers and cook too!
Ed Bell could never cook this good!!!! LOL

Cheers, Arlie

Yo Arlie, now that's some funny stuff right there, poor Edd. Good job on the cornbread man. Good luck with the dinner roles bro. Just use any good dinner role recipe, and man oh man! Hot as it is got me wanting to make pot of chili! Keep up the good work bro, and thanks for helping those folks out down there with Tanna.

Re: First Dutch Oven Cook
Looks great Arlie. Do you put about half the amount of coals under the DO than there is on top?

Oh yeah...and what recipe T ?? I would like to try this out also. Hell, here in Arizona I made not need coals.

Dutch Oven Temps
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://papadutch.home.comcast.net/~papadutch/LodgeBakingTempChart.doc">http://papadutch.home.comcast.net/~papa ... pChart.doc</a><!-- m -->

If you go to the above web site it will give you the information you need for temps. Normally when baking you put twice as many coals on the top as on the bottom.

Looks good!
D.O.'s take me back to Scout Camp days... I have a few D.O. that I play around with and I thought that I could consider myself a blackpot cook until I met Gene. First time I walked in his garage I was amazed, the guys got like 20 D.O. and all the gear. The few catering jobs we have done we do the sides in D.O. Gene is one great cook in a D.O. in fact we did some vending at a Rendezvous last year and he was famous up there, what did they call you? Coal Bucket. Gene has been cooking with D.O.'s for 20 years or more and has won awards for his D.O. cooking.

Arlie, you might need to incorporate that D.O. contest with Grill on the Hill next year. You might have enough folks on this site that will cook in both Smile

BBQ on Fri & Sat, DO on Sunday. Don't get much better than that. Big Grin
BTW, departure date of 30 August seems to be what they have in mind for me.
R&R could be in the cards.

Back up to Jays' comments, lower elevations, and direct sunlight/higher ambient temps will shorten the cooking time in these black beauties. So you can backoff a couple of briquettes for these times. Conversely, higher altitudes/lower temps require more briquettes to get the temp up to what you are shooting for.
Can ya fry an egg on the sidewalk down there yet Jay?

Man, that looks great, Arlie!

One of my favorite things in a dutch is 40 garlic chicken. I add a little cognac and baby red potatoes to mine. Of course some of T's rolls would be fine for soppin'.

Yo, speaking of that Doug was here with me having lunch and he's of to see if he can find his dutch oven in the garage. He was reminded no pics it didn't happen LOL! Looks like most of us have shared the same rocket science block towards the art of dutch oven baking? Thanks again Matt for regenerating our interest. Glad that all of you guys are on it now, the pressure will be off me at the meet and greets, and pot lucks LOL!!! PICTURES, PICTURES, PICTURES

It's hard enough understanding Dave the rest of the time Jay, and your offer him double dutch! ovens.

Respice, adspice, prospice. Latin proverb.
Respice = you didn't use enough spice the first time! adspice = you ought to add spice, you know? prospice = you should be an advocate for spice!
