Drum Parts
For those who have made their own drum smokers where did you purchase the steel grate to make the charcoal basket?

Thanks,

I got mine at Home Depot. Someone said that Wal-Mart may have them too.

That sure was good stuff!

Re: Drum Parts
I bought a peice of expanded metal from Metal Supermarket (537 Pickett Circle (~1810 S) SLC). They will cut to order and no piece is too small.

Re: Drum Parts
I had the expanded metal rings for mine fabricated at a local fab shop. They were $40 each. I wired the ring to a charcoal grate from a 22" Weber kettle.

Re: Drum Parts
It's 17" in diameter and 8" deep. I can run my drums at 275-300* for probably 18 hours on one load.

Weber Kettle charcoal grates are available at Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart, Ace Hardware or around $12.00.

If anyone wants expanded metal I have some and I'll be happy to sell strips large enough for a weber charcoal grate surround 8" high for $12.00 or 10" high for $15.00 on a first come first served basis.

I have 1 x 10" and 1 x 8" available that will give you either 8" or 6" for the charcoal basket, the other 2" is for the air flow under the basket.

They are all 60" long and cut to roll nicely.

At Metal Mart you can be scraps of the expandable metal for about 80 cents a pound with a min of I think 10lb. That is enough to make a basket ring and more.

At least you would have to buy a whole sheet.

I wrap around the whole charcoal grate, and make the legs of the charcoal basket out of the wrap.

I'll grab a picture when I get home and show you what I mean.

Hi Matt

Yup I still have some left, what would you like 8" deep or 10" deep, I think I still have one of each, if I don't have them already cut I still have more metal to cut more from.
