Holy crappoly, that's only two months to get ready for the first one! And I can't even find my lighter fluid anywhere!

Only if enough teams register, turn up, and cook in all 4 categories, and turn in the product to the judges!

That is, 25 teams must turn in meat to be judged in all four categories, no matter how many teams turn up overall.

Respice = you didn't use enough spice the first time! adspice = you ought to add spice, you know? prospice = you should be an advocate for spice!

The ISE is 12 - 15th March, and there's the IDOS and BBQ competitions listed, but there's not much information around yet on either.

Does anybody know who is putting on the April 4th contest in Boise? There was another contest I was thinking about doing in Seattle on April 4th and would rather support a local contest

Personally, I love Rock 'n Ribs. It must be the city boy in me that digs the downtown cookin' thing. Others don't like it for that very reason. I'll keep showing up as long as it's there and I can make it. It's sorta like our version of The Big Apple Barbecue Block Party.

Here are some pics from 2006 to give you an idea of what it's like.

Technically the original post just says
Quote:April 3-4 Idaho (Location to be announced at a later date)
. Is it actually in Boise or elsewhere?

Re: UBBQA Competition Schedule for 2009
That's too bad the Stars and Stripes is cancelled this year. We had a good, Hot, time there last year since it was our first full competition. (4th overall, 1st Pork) Maybe it was cancelled because three out of the top four winners were from Idaho. Big Grin We had a good showing that day. We just got 10 inches of snow here in Idaho Falls in the last two days. Just when I removed the tarp from my new smoker and was getting ready to fire it up. Blasted weather!! We are thinking about going to Rio Rancho in New Mexico for the competition there. Has anyone participated in that one? Is it worth the time? I just can't wait to get cooking again!!

You're right about the Stars and Stripes competition. We can't have people from out of state winning our competitions. So we are trying to stack the deck so that Utah cooks win the Utah competitions. (just kiddin)

That sure was good stuff!

Have never been to the Rio Rancho, either.... Otis & The Bird have competed there a couple of times, and I know Gene and maybe a couple of others from around here have gone there to judge... I hear it is becoming a great comp... Well attended and well organized... Weather can be a little "dicey" there at that time of year... Pretty much 10 hours from SLC before adding the additional drive time you might have by pulling a smoker and gear, weather, road construction, etc...

I'll have to do a wait and see on cooking or judging on this Comp. Gas prices are the key factor here. It is a good venue, for judges as well as competitors. Northern N.M. weather is as unpredictable as, no gender jokes allowed, as Northern Utah weather. Last year was fairly nice, as I recall, at least night time in the motel was, no rain, snow, wind, etc. The day time temp was pleasant too.

Re: UBBQA Competition Schedule for 2009
Hey Dave- Santa brought me an Austin National smoker. I found it on Ebay, bought it from a guy in Hooper, UT. It's not what I really wanted, but what the funds would allow. I only did two complete events last year. The one in Eagle looked like a good one, but having it on a Sunday-Monday, made it so I couldn't make it. I want to get an event going in Eastern Idaho along the Snake River. I know of only one other team in Eastern Idaho- Snake River BBQ out of Victor. Great couple. We need more events in Idaho!
Keep the fire low!

Hey Hoss, For my opinion the Fire Water and Ice is far more fun and the folks putting it on do a much better job taking care of the competitors.

Kearns Olympic Oval swimming pool car park.

South of the pool, right next to the South entrance to the play and kiddie pool side.
