Re: Utah Competition PG Kiwanis Hog Heaven BBQ Cook Off
Yo, Mike called me last week because we had talked last year at the event about a few things. I told him that I would try to get some judges together for the event. I already have Sheldon on, and if any others preferably certified pm me. We will need one per team. I have also been asked to speak to the public about competition BBQ. Anyone care to join me? I also think that it will be a vehicle to get more people in the state to join our association, and who knows maybe some more new teams can be formed. We [Utah Smoke] will not be there cooking, but I will offer our help if needed. This is a great cause, and a perfect venue for you new cats to get your feet wet at the minimum cost. R & R BBQ started competing early this year as a back yard team and look at those cats now! Come on down meet some great people and have fun! See ya there?

Thanks for the kind words T. Anything I can do to help let me know (except to cook, too many weeks in a row for the wife).

Yo, I don't think that you will be required to have a food handlers permit. Dan and I spoke about this very matter yesterday and he will be finding out the final details. Who else is thinking about coming?

The way they do the fund raiser, you wont need a food handlers permit. You DON'T need to cook a bunch-o-meat either. If you want to compete, come and compete. There will be enough of us with larger pits that can take up the slack. We would LOVE to see anyone who is even thinking about competing to come compete. This is a great opportunity to get your feet wet. There will be plenty of us there to give new people some help.
so just DO IT!!!

Re: Utah Competition PG Kiwanis Hog Heaven BBQ Cook Off
I'll be there without a doubt. Plan on pulling my RV down so the girls can get a good nights rest while me and my boy do the all night cook. Will leave WVC probably around 930 or 10 once the morning rush dies out. I know it's a bit early but since I've never done this before, I want to give myself plenty of time just in case I leave home without the kitchen sink and have to go pick one up...

Who know's, maybe I'll be able to move from the back yard to the front

Yo Mike, I guess that they are your standard weight around nine and your turn in time should be around 3:30 or 4. Awards around 5:30.

Yes they have a very nice power grid. They also supply ice. If any of you want to cook, just show up and we can get you registered at the event.

That sure was good stuff!

Yo, once again no entry fee, just cook your butts off with some ribs, great practice, and for a good cause.

Questions for the organizers - I'll be coming in with my travel trailer in tow right around 11am (for the girls of family to sleep in since us guys will be up all night). Is it best to come in from the south and park along the west side of the park or is there a specific area we need to check in and park?

Usually you park on the south side. There should be areas marked out for each team to go in. You may want to look at taking the one on the south west corner.

That sure was good stuff!

I'm going to be out with the family... I know I could always invite them to some quality BBQ family time, but I think we'll be out of town or I'd be there, of course there are still 24 hours before I'd need to make a decision so that could all change!

Otherwise if I'm around, I'll turn up and talk smack all day and just visit with those that are cooking for a while!

Respice, adspice, prospice. Latin proverb.
Respice = you didn't use enough spice the first time! adspice = you ought to add spice, you know? prospice = you should be an advocate for spice!

I know you guys really wanted me to come down and cook, but I just cannot get out of my previous obligations. We are too short handed here and cannot find any help. If things change between now and tonight, I will show up, but it would be after the 8:00 setup time. Sorry guys, good luck with this event.

Can we come help someone with turn-ins? I don't get off work until 2pm and would love to be a part of this if even in a small way.
