Re: RNR results
Vince - The rules you found are much more specific than those currently posted on the Jack site. The version you posted make it very clear. The rules that I found on their site make no mention of the four KCBS categories. It should not be this confusing.

I have seen 3 sets of rules, previously 25 teams needed to cook in all 4 kcbs categories to qualify as a Jack Qualifier, I was excluded myself when only 24 teams cooked all 4 categories..... there were 26 teams present, one was late on chicken and one never turned in Pork, that disqualified the contest as a Jack qualifier .... I was lucky and had won 2 other State Championships that year and still got to go..... but had that been my only win that year, I would not have been able to go....

Gene, was that the time you and Arlie won at Viejas? He was telling me about that yesterday. The mention you made about a team being late on Chicken was the reason the KCBS BOD modified the scoring rules to show a late turn in as a DQ and receiving all 1's instead of 0's as was the previous case. That way a team turning in a late entry is recognized as having cooked the meat and not ending up screwing up the Jack or Royal qualifying needs.

John, you're right: It shouldn't be this confusing.

Re: RNR results
 It has been my experience as well that if a contest is KCBS sanctioned, all four meats by all qualifying teams is required. 3rd. year contest means that at least 25 teams must compete in all four categories. When I saw the list, I was amazed that someone didn't throw a brisket on a cooker and crank it all the way up without regard to the finished product. I have seen that done in the past, to make it a qualifier. It saddens me that all that effort went into a contest, and to have it run so well, only to fall into this kind of situation. I guess the really important thing is that everyone had a good time and learned a little more about BBQ.

actually, that was another event that I won that didn't qualify for the Jack, Viejas had 35 teams, they thought that they would have a proclamation, it never showed, I gave them on the week after the draw when I found out that it wasn't a qualifier, I didn't get to go to Jack that year.... I had a spare proclamation, it is a qualifier now....

this is an interesting situation, all that needed to happen (at the time) was someone burn the other meats, turn in late, get dq'd then there would have been a score in 25 positions........... the 25 teams would then be a qualifier....

You know this is unfortunate. We should be able to get 25 teams that want to compete at 100% and not have to have 1 or 2 teams that are thrown in and burning meat just to make it a qualifier. I applogize that Skinny Boys wasn't there. Like I posted previously, Gene and I had been planning on the RNR for a year. It just so happened that he had knee surgery and things in my life kept me from doing it alone. Unless one of us is under the knife again next year, we will be there.

Just talked to Debbie at Jack Daniels, it seems they are sticking to the rule where all 25 teams need to turn in all 4 KCBS meats, looks like Jonny Trigg will be representing Utah at the Jack....

Gene, thanks for letting us know what Debbie had to say on this. Nothing like getting the news directly from the lady who makes the decisions!

So whats your point Larry? You don't want to judge because some cooks like to have "FUN" as you see it  Must have been a personal issue, don't bad mouth RNR, or the Utah BBQ Association! If you had a REAL problem with something you should have brought it up to the KCBS Reps on site Not hear!

Yo,Yo,Yo, awhile ago in a post Larry made reference to he is ready to come out and compete, maybe this is where he is coming from, if so great. This is the way I read into what he said. I may be wrong, I hope not. Scottie left too much good carma on his cooker for him not to come out.

I agree, T. When I read Larry's comment eariler today it seemed clear to me that he is giving up judging because cooking looks like a lot more fun.

Dave, you worrying about your beloved Packers already?

 That's right folks! Packer backer can't be down wind of our pellet poopers emitting all that sweet, succulent smoke, knowing it is permeating what is in the cooker. He's just a little weird that way. I'm sure ya'll understand!

Re: RNR results
This was another great event! Thank you all for everything you do to make these things so great. There is a LOT of hard work put into one of these cooks and you guys never seem to get enough thanks. THANK YOU ALL! It was great to meet all of the new folks and talk with them. Thanks Mr & Mrs Trigg for being our neighbor. Sorry about all the noise while you were trying to sleep.
Hope you do well in the big cook!
