Thanks Sheldon!

Respice, adspice, prospice. Latin proverb.
Respice = you didn't use enough spice the first time! adspice = you ought to add spice, you know? prospice = you should be an advocate for spice!

I noticed that, too...I think that was actually a shot from the previous cookoff at Thanksgiving Point...

Yep! That was a scene from Thanksgiving Point. I was having problems with the editing, and inadvertently inserted that scene. Same thing happened when the credits were rolling.

I guess my editing is not ready for prime time, LOL!

Thanks for the good video.

Even after seeing it, I still can't believe that the "trophies" were freakin' squeeze bottles! What in the world is up with that?! I'm sorry, but that is an insult at a $10K competition. Check that... It's an insult at just about any competition.

John,

I was surprised at that too as I asked about the trophies when I got there. BUT with that being said and the cost of high fuel most teams would rather have the money. If it had been in my hands I would have done things a little different but I dont like spending much money on trophies. Can you even tell me without looking who finished second in any category? I didnt think so! Should I take it that you are so insulted that you will not be back?

Arlie,

No, it's not a showstopper for me; just disappointing. As I indicated via e-mail last week, I will be there if at all possible.

That's cool, but my vote is that you'd have to jack your entry fee significantly in order to afford my services. Smile

Great Shootin' Sheldon!! The Trophies we won this go round' probably won't end up on the mantle but the ones we hope to win next year most likely will.

I've heard multiple complaints about the trophies, or lack thereof. Some folks were a bit confused thinking that a real trophy would follow, others seemed downright insulted.

With our cookoffs, either the venue/event organizers provide them or the cost is figured into the operating budget rather than subtracted from the prize money, so the comment about "teams would rather have the money" because of the cost of gas was a bit confusing to me. Does that mean that if there would have been actual trophies, their prize money would have been $50-$100 less? Which would mean that the advertised prize purse would have been false?

Being that Arlie said he was surprised at the lack of trophies would lead me to believe that Snowbird was supposed to come up with the trophies, so maybe there was just a miscommunication. I have no idea, being that I wasn't involved in this event at all. I've not been to nearly as many contests as some, but I've never seen one where there were no trophies of some sort. Even some of the cheaper events gave out an engraved cutting board, or some such thing...

But, let's not dwell on the trophies or let the lack of them cast a dark shadow on the event as a whole. If I remember right, every single team there had a great time, loved the venue, and thought that the contest itself was very well organized and said they would be back if they can, so that sounds like success to me.

Re: Grill on the Hill - Snowbird - Video
Guys if you would address you concerns with me that would be great and we can work together to make this even a better event in 2009. I already have more teams than 08's team list wanting to cook in 2009. That is great! Email with with any concerns and or problems. Hearing them 2nd hand on the forums doesnt help. My email is below and I will see that Snowbird and I address each and everyone of them

Thanks again for cooking this year and hope to see you all again soon.

My next contest is Grand Junction and it is a great event is you are interested. We had huge crowds last year at at least 10,000 people. we are also giving gas money back to each team based on how far you drive.

Thanks again,

Arlie

I've only been competing for a little under 2 years but I've done enough events to be able to tell when a promoter/organizer is "The Real Deal" and Arlie is "The Real Deal".

From the very beginning, my e-mails were always answered same day and usually within the same hour. His communication was always simple, clear and concise. I was very impressed with all the attention to details at the event including the running water we all had at the back of our cook sites. The bottom line is that Arlie took care of business and I believe that he will work very hard to make this event bigger and better in 2009.

There's an old saying that "the devil is in the details" and it is the details that make the difference between a good event and a great event. I already believe that this was, indeed, a great event and I would encourage everyone to take Arlie up on his request to contact him directly with things you would like to see changed for 2009. He's a real professional and isn't going to get his feelings hurt because someone didn't like something about the show. Please tell him so he can do something about it.

See you all there next year! (And at the Rock 'n Ribs in August.)

Is there any other way to view this video? I don't have high speed internet and my work computer blocks out youtube.com. Can someone email it to me and I can have my daughter burn a disc for me?

You can tell I'm a real computer expert huh :|

Oh I can copy and paste now though!

The problem is that YouTube won't allow videos to be downloaded directly from their sight.
