A Big Thanks to Arlie, Gene and Snowbird (Grill on the Hill)
I just wanted to send a big thanks to everyone that was involved in making Grill on the Hill a success.
For a first event at this venue, I thought it went very well. The scenery was fantastic, and the event was well planned and organized well.

Some highlights that I really appreciated:
Hot water available right at the cooking spots
Electricity for all that needed it
Every 30 minutes or so a golf cart that came and collected grey water
Every 30 minutes or so a golf cart that came by with free ice
Garbage cans and recycle cans for every team and they took care of hauling it away
Ash cans located every 30 feet or so
Nice discounts on the rooms, my family enjoyed the nice place to stay and the boys loved the swimming pool
Breakfast included in the room package
Tram ride for those that paid for a room or cooked

Everything was planned and communicated very well, I thought.

A few suggestions for next year:
-A couple of port-a-potties along cooking row so cooks don’t have to walk so far for a restroom break
-Snowbird- Loved the Grill on the Hill T-shirts- Next year keep in mind that a lot of us BBQ cooks would love to buy your T-shirts but a X-large or even XX-Large won’t fit half of us.
-If cooking row is the same place next year, then the closest hotel is The Lodge (not the Cliff Lodge)

To Arlie- Great Event! Hope you do it again next year! - Thanks
To Gene- Thanks for a great CBJ class and for a great event. You represented KCBS very well!
To Snowbird- It was a beautiful place to come for 3 days and to hold a BBQ competition. I would love to come back and do it again!

What was the room rate?? I would suggest a name change for the event nest year....

"Que on the hill"
BBQ at the bird

Did Arlie name it or snowbird.
It must be snowbird as I think A fellow Qer would know the aversion to the word grill.
I wish folks would use the term grillin for those terrrible fatty burger and dog cooks that they always call a BBQ..

Well said Dave,

I feel the folks at Snowbird did an outstanding job of seeing to the needs and wants of the teams. I would like to chime in on the shirt issue. I am happy to buy a few to support the contest, (We bought three at this event). I think the logo on the shirts that were sold should be prominent, not a two inch image that one must look close at to see what is being represented. I am proud to have cooked at this event and I would be proud to wear the shirt as a way to bring more interest in future BBQ events at Snowbird and In Utah.

Having said that. GREAT JOB!!!!! Snowbird, thank you Arlie, KCBS folks well done in my view, judges and other volunteers thank you for all you folks as well. Having teams travel so far to play in our yard was awsome. My hat is off to you in thanks for the chance to spend the weekend with all of you.

Well said everyone, I hope that Arlie or the folks at Snowbird see this. It was a great event and the suggestions are just minor things that would make a great event even better. As for the t-shirt size thing, I'll be needin' lots and lots more XXX's...

Ditto Dave,
My only suggestion is that the shirts be made with the prominent "Snowbird" as opposed to (or in addition to) the wing logo. Now that it's mentioned, Elkski had a point.
These suggestions are minor in relation to the great contest this turned out to be.
Thanks again to Arlie and Snowbird.

Talked with one of the Snowbird employees while I was up there on Saturday. Mentioned the issue with the word "Grill". She laughed ... said she was from the South and had had more than a few fights with the Marketing department about the difference between grilling and BBQ'ing. Guess we have a bit more education to do around here. 8)

Well, just to add yet another "THANKS" to Arlie on this thread, I thought it was a superb comp... I have never felt I was treated "poorly" at any comp I have competed at... But this comp was like the difference between staying at the Hilton - and staying at the Ritz Carlton... Well, okay... No one turned down my sleeping bag Friday night, nor did they leave me one of those little "foo-foo" chocolates on my pillow... But Arlie & crew didn't miss much else IMHO...

Arlie, I know you mentioned something about maybe expanding this comp next year.... I don't know... Something to be said about a smaller but very well run comp... Would think it might make people want to stand in line to sign up for it the next year... 8)

Thanks again, Arlie...

You stayed at the wrong place then. They did make my bed for me and I did get a chocolate on my pillow. Next year let me recomend a room and not the back of a pick up Smile

Hey, Big Beard and Norm -

It was WAY GREAT to have both of you and your teams present at this comp!!! Talk about having some cahones!! But you know, this is how you learn - by taking that first step and jumping in.... You both will look back someday and realize truly what all you learned and walked away from by being present at this comp... It was a tough one and you both hung in there nicely...

I'd be proud to be cooking along side of either of you any day.... And I look forward to that opportunity down the road...

"Hoochie" 8)

BTW, Norm - I was out under my EZ-Up as well in a folding chair... No feather pillows for me that night, either!!
