Thermapen Alternative?
All,

Here is what looks to be a possible good alternative to the pricey Thermapen instant-read thermometer. I ran across this in the most recent Cooking Enthusiast catalog.

It's made by DeltaTRAK, which is a company that makes precision measuring devices. The catalog says it reads in under 2 seconds with +/- 1.8* accuracy. It's also completely submersible. At $30, it looks like a steal.

DeltaTRAK Thermometer

Just passing it along,
John

Phew; a smaller tip for less invasive probing! Wink

Respice, adspice, prospice. Latin proverb.
Respice = you didn't use enough spice the first time! adspice = you ought to add spice, you know? prospice = you should be an advocate for spice!

All righty then, something with a less invasive probe. Smile I'm sure the butts and briskets will apreciate that :!:

I have been using the Delta Track for the last two years. It is very accurate and really reliable.
And just for the sake of conversation, the "less invasive" probe actually IS beneficial.

Re: Thermapen Alternative?
It only reads to 302 degrees, so how am I going to know when my chicken is done? ...or is this why my chicken always finishes last place?

I wish I would have saw this one before I shelled out the $80 for my thermapen......

Re: Thermapen Alternative?
If your cooking for someone else, I guess size matters.
If your cooking for yourself, it's immaterial.
It's all about taste. Ask the French.
