Not EXACTLY a discovery but....
Due to a big planned backyard BBQ (my own personal fire, water and ice) I had to build my second fire basket for my 85 gal drum. I'd been just using one and moving it back and forth between my 55 and 85 but had to run both for the Q so I could do my beans, sauce, Kielbasa, ribs and pork. This being the first time cooking on the new basket, was unsure of the actual time I could get out of it so left the vents set as they were during the cook just to see...
Started it at 1pm Saturday with a full 21 lb bag of Kingsford
Added 4 2"-3" cherry branches
Cooked dead on at 250 all day with only minor adjustments due to the high wind and at the time of meat loading.
Went to bed at midnight, still dead on at 250.
Woke up at 7 this morning, 250...
It's now just before noon on Sunday and it has dropped to 225.
I find it simply amazing that she's been running solid at these temps for so long. What's the longest you drum heads have got out of a full basket?
Will try and get some pics of the leftovers (which we have LOTS of!!!). Only pic I have right now is my sauce which I threw together a label for just to see the reaction from my guests....
