BBQ Class
The Utah BBQ Association, in conjunction with the Western BBQ Association, is interested in providing a series of BBQ cooking classes. However, it would be in our best interest if we could gauge the interest level of Utah's BBQ enthusiasts/afficianados in such an activity.

So...would you be interested in attending BBQ cooking classes or workshops? And if so, how much of a factor would the cost be?

Let's hear from you, folks - it's rather important. 8)

If it's a local event, I'd be quite interested. Cost will likely not be an object of participation for me. Date and time (and honeydo's not yet done) would be a greater factor.

I always look forward to the chance to learn something new. The cost wouldn't really matter to me.

Sign me up. The time/date is my limiting factor.

Me and April will definately be there. Our only problem would be if it conflicted with our work schedules. Evenings and weekends are best.

Oh, it would definitely be on a weekend! Tongue

We're looking at people such as Ray Lampe, Paul Kirk, Rick Browne, Jim Minion, etc.

Anyone have a wish list of who they would like to come hang out with, cook with, and learn from?

Personally, I'd like to spend the day with Mike Mills, even though he's a MIM guy...

I'm still looking for a Unix/Linux sys admin job, money is pretty tight at the moment, so cost of the class is a MAJOR factor. If I get a decent job before it actually happens, that would be a different story.

I'm definitely interested. The cost shouldn't be a problem (within reason). I would like to have Jim Minion teach a class since he's helped me a lot on the various forums over the past couple of years.

I'm interested. Cost is a factor, but not a major one.

We have participated, taught and set up classes in various parts of the country and observed one common element with each one. The people taking these classes talk amonst themselves when they are not in "session" and share their knowledge they already have with one another and it's surprising how much they already know. The instuctor simply guides them and throws in a technique now and then to show an easier or faster way to get an end result.
I have often wondered... what would happen if a group of enthusiasts with various skill levels, using their own meat ( raw and unadulterated ) got together and practiced, helping the guy next to him or vice-versa learn the art of BBQ, minus the instuctor? A learning under/over fire type experience. By the sounds of what I have read on this forum... You all might just save some money and have some fun, learning by doing. Doing it after your CBJ class couldn't hurt, heck maybe some of those judges might give some informal feedback and a chance to practice their new skills.

Just my 2 new pennies worth,
Rick

Joe - I might be able to swing down from Boise if the timing was right. Paul Kirk would be outstanding!
