Hey everyone!! We launched our huge media blitz this week and I'm in overdrive!

So far we have nine teams that have said they are coming, 5 have paid, 4 (checks in the mail)?

Teams paid so far are:

Fatty's (Cedar City)
Casablanca (Mesquite, NV)
Great Basin (Logandale, NV)
Pork U (St. George, UT)
D.U.B.S BBQ (St. George, UT)

I plan on calling up some of the teams that have expressed interest but not committed yet and will be updating things this weekend. Feel free to call me anytime!

Hey everyone,

We're still moving forward at full steam! Teams so far with checks in are below...

Fatty's (Cedar City)
Smokin in Mesquite (Mesquite, NV)
Great Basin (Logandale, NV)
Smokin' up the River (NV)
Pork U (St. George, UT)
D.U.B.S BBQ (St. George, UT)

We still have 4 teams that have indicated they are sending paperwork and another 2 from Texas and one from California that are also considering...

We are also extending the early sign up entry fee reduction to $200 Until April 30th. Those that have paid the full $250 will get a $50.00 refund upon arrival to the cook-off...

All we need is 15 teams to ensure a draw for the Jack Daniels and we have no intention of canceling this contest. So we hope you will consider making this one of your stops along the BBQ trail this year!! Sure wouldn't be the same without some more of our Utah cookers! Several have indicated they want to make sure we are going to have 15 cookers so we qualify for the draw, something we are confident will happen but we need everyone to get signed on!!!

For those of you who get the Salt Lake Tribune or Deseret News you should have seen a half page ad in the paper the past two Sunday's and our state-wide TV commercial will start on Thursday on the Comcast Cable TV network...

This is my first comp. and I can't find anywhere for check-in times? Do we check in on Friday at noon? Who inspects and when for meat inspection? What time does cooking start? Anything else?

Once you are checked in and meat inspected you can start prepping your meat - turn-in times will start at noon on Saturday

Several teams have expressed that they want to make sure we are a qualifier.
If all of these teams come in we will more than qualify for the Draw. Lets get this done! If you pull the trigger, others will follow!!! Cool

checking out other events in Utah - it looks as if the Grand Champion will have a 1 in 4 odds of being drawn for the Jack Daniels -

There is an additional event from last year that also is a Jack / Royal qualifier, so there are at least 5 for this year if they all occur! Wink

Check In: May 13, 2pm to 7pm ~ All cook sites should be setup before dark unless other arrangements are made in advance.

Meat Inspection: Once your site is setup.

Cooks Meeting: Friday May 13th, 7:30pm

Competition Meat:
Brisket / Pork Spare Ribs (no baby backs) St. Lois cut accepted / Chicken

People’s Choice: We are allowing for a fourth meet to be cooked for People’s Choice. You can use your competition meat and you can also prepare pulled pork (shoulder/butt) only. Participation is not required but each team has the option of participating. Tickets will be sold for $2.00 each and we will pay each team $1.00 per ticket collected.

Turn In Times:
Saturday May 14th. 12pm – Chicken / 1pm – Ribs / 2pm – Brisket / 2:15 PC

Payouts:

Cooking Time: Cooks can start cooking anytime after your meat is inspected!

Awards: Certificates & Prize Money! Award ceremony will be at 4pm on main band-stage.

Hey all! Any other teams on this board considering coming down? Looks like we will have our 15 to qualify! Sure would be nice to host at least 20 teams :-) We certainly have enough prize money to go around!!!

That's 11 teams with two from California and at least one more from Utah that we are expecting to come in.
That would be 14 teams and two teams have indicated they would be willing to split to ensure that we qualify for the draw.
Three others have called and said "I'll come if it's a qualifier!" Well boys... IF YOU COME THEN IT'S A QUALIFIER!!!! (funny how that works...)

15 Teams - $10,000 in prize money? Each item pays 10 deep! What are your chances of going home with at least $650? Each team has a 1 in 30 chance of taking home a prize!!

We are just about 12 days away!!! Lets geter done!!!!

This does sound like a fun comp. Where is the judge sign up at?
It just so happens that we have had a campsite reserved at nearby Zions for this weekend. I am a certified KSBS judge and judged 4 comps last season and have judged a ICBA event in Texas 2 years ago. I might take some time out from hiking on Sat to attend this event.
What time are the turn in at? and how would I get a confirmed judgeship before I drive the 40 mins?
Man that is a big payout... Has me thinking my pork could make me my entrance fee???? the wife says no way this is a hiking trip.
I meas so far my meats have never been in last place.

I know we have a lot of Utah teams coming in, I think I have one or two from UTBBQO - Any last minute considerations? Sure would love to have two or three more teams come in to add to the synergy!!!

Great - The Grand Champion will get an invitation to the American Royal Invitational, Kansas City and a chance in the draw for the Jack Daniels Invitatonal, Lynchburg, TN

Also - GC & 1st place winners will be invited to the IBCA Invitational, October 8 in Grand Prairie, TX ---- and the top 3 places in each meat category will be invited to the "National BBQ Championship, Meridian, TX, the 4th w/e of October.

Good Luck to all of the teams - looking forward making new friends.
