Re: Backyard BBQ Competition
I just want to thank Tumbleweed BBQ and everyone associated with them for putting on a fun contest this past weekend. This was our first solo contest ever (We were Sampsons Pit Bitches the week before), and my wife and I had a ton of fun. Of course, it helps when you do pretty good (Dang coin toss, oh well)! We will be back next year, so long as Tremonton lets us come back! Thanks again to Tumbleweed and all the competitors.

Respice, adspice, prospice. Latin proverb.
Respice = you didn't use enough spice the first time! adspice = you ought to add spice, you know? prospice = you should be an advocate for spice!

Ok, all you backyard cooks, now you need to sign up for the Fire Water and Ice Backyard Division!
You all showed that you can cook for the "Average Joe Judge", Now lets see if you can stack up against some real BBQ judges!
Actually, from the looks of the turn ins, ALL of you should be competing in the Pro Division!
Lets support this event!
SoEzzy put a link in the post above. GO BBQ!

This will be held in Tremonton City, just North of Brigham City.
We do not have a lot of details yet, as it was just approved.
There will be 2 meat categories, possibly chicken and ribs.
There will be trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd, in each category and for Grand Champion and Reserve Grand.
We are working on getting sponsors for prizes.
We will charge an entry fee of $25 that will help pay for the trophies and prizes.
If enough teams sign up, we will add the extra cash to the pot for the winners.
This will be a great opportunity for you guys on the North end of the valley to try your hand at competing to get you ready for the Fire Water and Ice comp in August!
This is still in the infant stage and we will post more details as they become available.
Any of you "City Boys" want to take on the "Country Boys"?

I'm very interested at throwing my hat into the ring.....please send me any info you have: jthurmandoc@gmail.com

RE: Backyard BBQ Competition
I have had a couple of questions on this already. They were good questions, so I will answer them here for everyone.
This is not a sanctioned event. It is a private event sponsored by our restaurant. We do not have the backing of large prize money. Last time all we did was charge a $25 entry and just gave out trophies. The Local Businesses pitched in some great prizes to give away to help bring the teams out. I am going to try and get better prizes this year for us. We may raise the entry fee up a little and give out cash, but I want to keep the cost low so the beginners can get in on this too, plus money is tight for everyone this year. This year, I will not be able to compete as much as I would like in the pro divisions because I cannot afford the large entry fees. This is just in the beginning stages of planning, so there are no details available as of yet. If we can get in with the local event like we did last time, that would be awesome and all signs are indicating that may be a possibility.

This year I would like to hold a BBQ comp similar to the last one and also add in a Dutch Oven competition as well! I seem to have a lot of support from the locals, and they seem to love the idea. The beginners would all cook on the same level as the pros. I know that this is not the normal kind of competition, but it gives the beginners a chance to compete with the pros and encourage them to move up. Last year, the results were a definite surprise! Also you would be able to try your hand at a dutch oven dish at the same time, if you wanted to! I would like to get some certified judges in on this one to help even things out a little more. It will be a great comp.

If we can get in with the local festival, there is tons of things for the family to do while you are cooking. This makes for a more family friendly event. Last year, they even had a movie in the park at night! This would be great fun for all.

I have had a couple of guys already volunteering to help. Thanks guys, I will take you up on them offers and would accept any more offers. Many hands make light work!
I will post more info as I get it. Thanks Guys!
