Going to a bbq contest is the BEST way to learn. BBQ folks are very friendly, very enthusiastic, and are always willing to discuss thier craft. The only caveat to this is Saturday morning until the turn ins are done, it is a very busy time and most guys have thier game faces on. Otherwise, don't hesitate to ask questions or strike up some conversations.

Hey everyone! Sorry to say Hendrix (my little boy) has came down with an ear infection, so BHBBQ will not be making the trip ): go figure we havent been able to do much competing this year We wish all of you the best of luck!! Until next time!!

We are at the competition, sorry Hendrix isn't well, ear infections can be such a drudge for the babies, and everyone around them.

I had an excellent time at the pot-luck last night and picked up some really valuable tips from T and Chris. Thanks for those tips guys.
If you haven't been to one of these, I strongly recommend you do. Not only do you get to sample lots of great food other than BBQ (including award winning dutch oven recipes) and gleen those tips from the pro's, but you also get a sense of just how hard the guys & gals work to get these events put on for everyone. The Utah BBQ Organization, and especially the managing members, are the hardest working guys and gals I've seen. My hat's off to you all, can't thank you enough.
Looking forward to a good competition tomorrow...oops...I mean today.

Congratulations to Utah State Champions Big Johnsons BBQ!

WTG to everyone else that competed at this one, both Backyarder's and Pro's.

Thanks to Cutrubus and Layton Hills, for their help in making it a go, for the support and prize money, the space for the competition and for the judges room too.

They have stated that this competition and the Father's day Freeway Mazda event will be annual events, so they will be going on the calendar when I put it together.

It means that Big Johnson BBQ received grand champion with 1st place in chicken, ribs and pork. Utah Smoke received Reserve grand champion, T took (correct me if I'm wrong T), a 5th and either 3 4ths or 2 4ths and a 3rd.

Sorry, I didn't write it down at the time. Rachael will post the results later.

Congrats to the Pro and Backyard cooks, judges, sponsors, the Awards maker (they looked awesome!!!!) and everyone who help organize this great first time event.

I'm putting this on my calender for next year to cook in. I had a blast judging this event.
