Right, Smoking Fryers.Wink

They release the list after all spots and ten on the waiting list are full. We are still at 19, may never make 30. Only three out of 25 locations have filled up. The trouble is with the crappy registration night a lot of teams switch locations far from where they wanted to be to get in. Now KCBS is talking to each one to try to sort it out. If there is room they can transfer thier registration else where as long as they have not paid. If they pay, they are stuck where they are.
Pity the jerk that decided not to test the computer program before he went home that night.

Anyone know if they require a minimum number of teams to hold the comp?

15 (to hold the comp as KCBS sanctioned) was the number I heard from Jean last year. However, I bet the organizers have a say also.

I think what you heard from Gene G ( KCBS Rep)?? that the contest has to have 15 teams the first yr of the event, 25 teams the second yr and beyond to be eligible for the Jack and American Royal. KCBS will sanction events with less than 15. But your correct in saying, the organizer may pull the plug on the contest if the team count is to low..

RE: Sams Clubs championships
Each contest will pay out $10K while 30 teams pay in $7,500. There clearly are expenses born by Sam's (maybe all of the 10K). The 7.5 K would cover KCBS and Trybe (the promoter, producer) but that's not a lot of money for this size tour so I assume Sam's is also paying into that pot.
I guess the point is that the difference between 20 teams and 30 is only 2.5K. Makes no sense to call it off over that. Also, this is a KCBS function, if we don't hit 25 it only means that this contest can't be used in the points chase or as a pre-qualifier. On the other hand this is the first time this contest has occurred in Utah so maybe the 15 rule applies.
By the way we are at 20 now.

I also read on another forum that these contest are NOT qualifiers for the JD or AR regardless of team count.

I called KCBS and asked them if the local or any of them are qualifiers for the Jack and the answer is NO! They are good for TOY year points and that is it.

i also asked if they don't fill up a contest is there any chance of them canceling the contest and they said, NO.

This is the same as last year.

Good luck to all!

Trying to figure out if it was a good idea to pay $250 for a chance to beat 30 other teams for the chance to drive 1200 miles to compete against 30 even better teams to win the chance to drive 2600 miles to cook against 50 even better teams.

Just look at it as just another competition. No plans to drive to NM even if I do get lucky..

So do they just start going down the line until they get five teams willing to travel or just go with who shows up?

Damn good question. You'd would have thought they would have kept the regional contest in Vagas

Are the rules for the chicken wing contest the same as the rules for the chicken category. As far as the cooking method, Nations Best Barbeque will be there with a new team member. We have added Don Ousley to our team and are looking forward to a new season of bbq.

Man- I can't wait to get cooking!!! I'm getting sick of eating chicken every weekend. I've been practicing chicken every weekend for the last two months. Ready to move on and start playing with other kids. This year is shaping up to be a good one in terms of contests. I'm just excited!

Yep spoke to Richards Round Up while in Vegas, and he hadn't heard of the contest. He said that he was going to sign up hope he made it. Doug also stopped by his restaurant earlier today, and mentioned it to him. Will be my first for the year, should be fun. Bob and I will be hosting the 11 o-clock shot for those that want to attend.
