RE: WOW $300!
Sold...pick her up Friday, bought it sight unseen, hope it's not too big of a wreck. Looks like I'm driving to Morgan to pick it up and limping it somewhere to get tires. Smile

Thanks Larry!

I'd call and make sure it has lights on it. if not a trip to Harbor fright might be a wise choice.

Didn't think of that...thanks, I was more concerned about the tires I forgot to notice the lights. Which brings up another question...do you have to register the trailer? Does it need plates? Do these smokers on trailers have a title?

Thanks for your advise.

Thanks, yeah I thought of the fenders too...It was just so cheap I couldn't past this one up. I paid less then asking, it needs work for sure...and much elbow grease. A true diamond in the rough!

Well got it home...tires made the trip fine, they do have dry rot and will need to be replaced. Everything else looks and seems fine, a lot of work just to get it up and presentable. Just neglected for a few years of non use and sitting in the weather. So far overall very happy with the purchase...time will tell if it can cook and hold temps...some times you have to take a chance when your a rookie.

RE: WOW $300!
Well I final had some time to start the restoration on this old trailer smoker, she's all sandblasted and redoing a couple of welds. Next I need to apply the high temp primer and paint...any suggestions? Confused

RE: WOW $300!
They have high temp primer and paint at Home Depot, but if you want it to shine the paints on Jambo pits are from Sherwin Williams and are good up to 1500, the difficulty is it needs to be heated to help cure it.

Respice = you didn't use enough spice the first time! adspice = you ought to add spice, you know? prospice = you should be an advocate for spice!

RE: WOW $300!
Alright thanks for the info on the paint, another question I noticed some sand in the bottom of the firebox, is this like an insulation of sorts like a barrier for burnout...or am I just seeing things? Rolleyes

RE: WOW $300!
Maybe someone thought that was a good idea, sand doesn't insulate well and makes shoveling ashes impossible. I would get it out. You are not going to burn up a firebox unless for some reason you think it's a good idea to clean your smoker by fire! Don't laugh, I still run into people that throw their Dutch oven in the fire to clean it out and the ovens look like it.
Some people try lining the firebox with fire bricks. I would suggest just sticking to small fires until you see how it cooks. A good smoking fire will be small but hot. To do that you need a fire grate holding the coals above the floor so air can be drawn under the fire. A good coal bin would help also.

Yes thanks Larry I do now remember the conversation awhile back about the charcoal basket, thats a great idea! The previous owners thought this pit was a waste because they couldnt cook good hamburgers and hotdogs to come off it...I had to kinda chuckle because the exhaust flu was rusted shut. Apparently they had a really bad flavor... Thanks for posting the pics, I've got the idea now.
