Rock n Ribs 2011 including the Team List
Yo, just got off the phone with Tyler. The BBQ competition went away last year for construction and will be back this year. I have received a few calls in question, so I feel that I must post the following. The dates are August 19th and 20th, and is already a paid KCBS sanctioned event. Construction will be completed sometime in April - May. The construction was done by the city to accommodate larger Concerts, and make it better for the BBQ contest, which we greatly appreciate. The Grand Opening is the 2-3-and 4th of June. Thanks to the Gallivan Center and the City. Hope this helps.

Re: Rock n Ribs
Yo, from what I understand, teams with Rv's, trailers and so forth, they are looking at accommodating them in the usual area. Things have been changed up top big time from what I understand to accommodate the teams with EZ ups from what I've been told. One of the problems with making an announcement like this is there are always questions that can't be answered totally and I apologize. I will be doing a walk through as well as attending the grand opening and I will let all know as soon as I do this. The KCBS tour truck might be in attendants this year as well. My intention was to get the date out, let people know that the competition was on, and to help stop cancellation rumors.

Yikes... I was going to offer to judge this one too, but this is the same weekend as the Worland event.

Re: Rock n Ribs
Yeppers, Worland was a favorite of ours and we have some great BBQ friends up there as well, don't know why they changed the date to the same weekend as Rock n Ribs? A few years ago it was always the week before. I will miss the ol'e buds. Tell them hi for me man.

Re: Rock n Ribs
I fully understand from an organizers point of view, that BBQ contests are a business venture and for profit, as they should be. And I appreciate all the the hard work that folks do to put on contests in our region. But wouldn't it be nice in these hard economic times, busy schedules, family activities etc. That organizers with in a region, would collectively come together, and discuss their event dates, or possible event dates. Then if there is wiggle room to move dates, for the betterment of both contests to bring in more cooks/ CBJ's , then things can be moved. For the most part in this region of the country, cooks and CBJ only will participate in 2 contests a month, due to travel, meat, entry fee and logging cost.

Re: Rock n Ribs
I'd have to dig my calendar out to double check, but I think the one R&R I judged was the weekend after Worland (I couldn't cook two in a row that is why I judged R&R).
It is what it is...

I'm not upset about not being a judge at the R&R, it is just the bummer of not seeing all the folks I cook so much with in Utah getting the chance to cook an event in Wyoming.

I know when I started logging with my uncle in Port Townsend, my first chain saw, a Stihl 051AV costs about $450.00 but anything these days would be well over a thousand. Don't even get me going on the price a permit.

RE: Rock n Ribs
Can anyone tell me how to register for this comp? I've been hunting around, but I can't find actual registration information anywhere. I contacted Cynthia, however she referred to the KCBS cite which refers me back to her. Any help would be appreciated. I'd like to join you guys this year at Rock n' Ribs.

Thanks!

We will check on the entry forms, and get them out if we can this week if possible.

RE: Rock n Ribs
I thought I would move this back to the top for those that missed it under the application section.

Rock N Ribs will be held on the 19th and 20th of Aug. There will be 10,000 dollars in prize money, and through the negotiations of T, the Gallivan center has agreed to an entry of $75.00. So all of you new teams that are on the fence about competing here is the perfect chance to get in there and try it out for really good price.
