Thermometer
OK .... what is your favorite ... most trusty ... go-to ... thermometer. Been looking at Thermopens and Maverick ... not sure what to go with. I am getting a pellet grill so am not sure that the Maverick two temp system is necessary. But I may be missing something. Your wit and wisdom is greatly appreciated.

RE: Thermometer
Thermopen!

Pull it open, lift the lid of the pit, test 15 pieces of chicken, close the lid, and do it all before the Polder I used to use, could test the first two or thee pieces!

Respice, adspice, prospice. Latin proverb.
Respice = you didn't use enough spice the first time! adspice = you ought to add spice, you know? prospice = you should be an advocate for spice!

I have 2 Oregon Scientifics that I just stick it the meat and watch/monitor the meat temps from inside the house while enjoying a baseball game. The indoor unit tells me when it's nearly done, 5 degrees below set temperature, and when it's done.

RE: Thermometer
Maverick is nifty but Thermopen gets it done rite and faster. Your in and out, and no big holes in the lovely bit of meat you just spent money and time making to look sexy!

RE: Thermometer
I really like my Thermoworks RT600C
http://www.amazon.com/RT600C-Super-fast-...07-2093462

It isn't quite as fast as the thermopen but, It's a quarter the price. I would agree that if you do competitions and need to check temps quickly, thermopen is the way to go but, if you just don't want to spend the money, this is a pretty good option!
