Brian and Becky Brinkerhof, under the Backcountry Utah TV and Radio Network

4) Why was Lyle Earl and his email address used for questions?
The Association was helping to bring in Judges and liaise with the Brinkerhofs to promote the KCBS sanctioned competition in Utah.
5) Who did not pay out the winners?
All monies were collected by the Brinkerhoffs and Backcountry Radio Network and they had sole responsibility for payout of all awards. Utah BBQ Association had no financial involvement whatsoever, either in receiving or distributing prize money for this contest, though we wished we had, as all prize money would have been paid out if we had been involved.

7) Why was nothing done about it?
In order to take action, we would have to sue the Brinkerhof's in small claims court, none of the winners had the money or time available to pursue legal action and as the Brinkerhof's had declared bankruptcy, it appeared to be like trying to get proverbial "blood from a stone"!
There was an offer made that may get the case dealt with by an attorney friend of one of the winners pro bono, (this was suggested as a possibility in August 2009, and was pushed for right through to the end of the year, and I eventually got the attorneys information from his friend, I personally made contact with the attorney directly February 2010), but for various reasons nothing every came of that directly, (the attorney had apparently not actually made the offer), though the attorney did provide information that indicated it would be possible to file on the Brinkerhof's and win, but still gain nothing except a piece of paper with a legal judgement on it!
The KCBS did not have any teeth to act to recover the monies, they don't hold the association liable or they would have not sanctioned other events since by the Utah BBQ Association, and they have both in 2010 and onwards into 2011.
Every few weeks / months we get another question about our liability in the event, and why the association didn't pay out the winners, the last time it was brought up, this section on the 2009 Wild West Debacle was put together, so that those with questions would be able to find the relevant information in one place.
Please feel free to ask questions, if you have better information about how to successfully recover the money, we would love to hear your suggestions and ideas!
