Utah's no burn days
Dang this sucks... seems like every day is a no burn day lately... I didnt check the forecast in the past.... so I have am guessing I might have burned on a no burn day in the past.. been watching it close now... dont want to violate the law... even the good looking days have been no burn...
so do most of you guys just take most of the winter off from smoking?
wondering.... I guess they must exempt the BBQ restraunts? otherwise they would have to close for the winter?

No burn days don't don't apply to cooking food.

I was wondering if there was an exception... the Div of air quality website does include charcoal grills and smokers on their list of no allowed activities... My backdoor neighbor is a cranky old lady that hates my smoker... think she would turn me in in a heartbeat if she can?

RE: Utah's no burn days
just took a closer look at the DEQ website here

http://www.airquality.utah.gov/Complianc...rndays.htm

clearly says

Prohibited on No Burn Days

Wood Fireplaces
Wood Stoves (both EPA certified and non-certified)
Pellet Stoves
Outdoor Fireplaces or Fire Pits
Charcoal Grill
Smokers
Coal Burning Stoves

so are you sure there is an exception if you are cooking food? I dont see it on their page? I know my backdoor neighbor will turn me in if she can...

I stand corrected. Didn't know it included pellet stoves. So what, people freeze?

I do believe that if the only source of heat in your home is burning you are allowed to burn... but they are trying to get those folks to change over to gas... kind of a hot topic on the news lately... Salt lake city council was bouncing around a idea to ban all sorts of wood burning always...

I think that if you are cooking food there is an exception. I had my restaurant for years and went through the no burn situations and nothing was said to me and as far as I know none of my competitors. What would we do if we had suddenly no power or gas, starve?

Your not supposed to burn to heat your home if you have other heating methods. None of the burn laws effect industry in Utah.
