Greetings to all,
The Utah BBQ Organization has made great strides from its beginnings a few short years ago. Just look at the number of competitions that are now being held each year in our beautiful state!! As we move into 2010, it is time for the Organization to take another giant step forward.
We have been working diligently over the last few months to solidify the organizational foundation of the Organization and support future growth allowing us to provide the best services possible to our members and our communities.
We have formally created a Managing Members group who will oversee the Organization. This oversight is governed by an Operating Agreement that will be posted for all to review.
This Operating Agreement defines rules for elections, memberships, and general organizational and operating procedures, it will be posted for the month of December.
We also now have contracts for services provided by the Organization for managing competitions to ensure that all parties uphold their responsibilities, (they are being checked by an attorney, and will be posted once we get them back with any changes the Managing Members need to ratify). We are developing Contest Organizing checklists to assist us in communicating with contest organizers and provide consistent services.
We are formalizing business sponsorship agreements. We have a Finance committee who are tracking and reporting on all the money collected for dues, entry fees and competition organizing fees. We are working on education opportunities throughout the state to ensure the Organization continues to grow and fulfill its mission statement. We are also working on obtaining official IRS 503© non-profit status.
We are very excited about kicking off our Membership Drive on December 1st. We know that in the past, membership in the Organization has not been carefully tracked and supported. We want to change that. As well as actively soliciting business sponsorships to provide discounts to dues paying members, we will be providing discounts to members on classes and Association sponsored competitions.
Beginning in October 2010 we will be holding elections so that YOU can help determine who is running YOUR organization. We want to encourage everyone to participate in the Association and its activities, but need to ensure that those who are willing to support the growth of the Association through membership dues are provided with the opportunity to have a voice in how the Association is run.
To assist us in this effort, we will be rolling out a âMembers Onlyâ section of the web site which will contain the following: an exclusive forum for Members, a forum for the Managing Member meeting minutes, election and voting information and exclusive member discounts with various local businesses, and a third forum where Members can voice their ideas and suggestions for the Organization, Managing Members and the web site.
We continue to be dependent on great volunteers to make all the work of the Organization happen. There will be many chances for you to get involved in education, event planning and execution, working on other committees, and in the management of the Organization. We canât be successful without you!
