Custom Smoker
I went one of the big box stores and picked up a smoker (offset). I was really excited to try my hand at true BBQ/Smoking. I brought my new smoker home and fired it up. I could not get it to above 150 degrees and after some inspection I realized what a peice of junk I bought (got what I paid for). I have done some modifcations to it and I am happy with it for this year. But I want to upgrade. I have been looking for custom smokers in Utah and I cannot find any. Does anyone know of a business in Utah that sells high quality offset smokers? I would like to avoid the crap they sell at Walmart, Costco, Lowes, and HD? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hey SmokinScott, I don't know too many places in UT that sell offsets . There is a new place in orem that sells the Good One smokers. Here is the link for them.

I have been into that store in Orem and they have a pretty good setup. They have a quite a few smokers in stock. If you do decide to make the trip, make sure you mentioned that you are part of the Utah BBQ Association. Also it is a little hard to find since they don't have a big sign yet. When you get to Orem and close to the address, turn on the south side of Carls Jr. and drive back to the buildings behind Carls Jr. You should be able to find them there.

That sure was good stuff!

Re: Custom Smoker
I will add my 2 cents (not worth much more). If you want to backyard smoke, and not grill, then come into the light. I have a pair of these verticle smokers in 18" and 24". They absolutley rock.. $200-$300 each and I can do a TON of meat in them.

*These are not KCBS approved (LP) competition cookers.

One thing to remember, it is the cook, not the cooker!

But, go big the next time! Or you will wish you did in another year!
Beacuase I thought a smoker that woulod cook 4 racks would be big enough. So I got one that can cook 14 racks,

Well last weekend I cooked 30 racks of ribs and 20 shoulders using two smokers, I had to borrow one to do it!

I should have gone bigger!!!!!!

Hey Scott,
I would love to show you the Louisiana Smokers at Kent's Sports in Ogden. Traeger makes a fine unit but has sent production to China. Louisiana's come from Alberta and have some great upgrades for the same money as Traeger. You can see them at Kent's Sports
307 Washington, Ogden 801-394-8487 ask for Jeff.

Re: Custom Smoker
OK, so I guess the drum build is out... How about a 22.5" WSM? I've got two that I love! Just so we can give better advice, what is your projected price range?
