Big Chill Competition report.

Postby T » Fri Apr 03, 2009 7:58 pm

Just got off the phone with Dave and the Competition is a qualifier from what I understand. 15 TEAMS for a first team event. Dave says clear skies with windy. The present temp is about 35 and cold and expected to reach 25 by morning. The Iron Chef ingredients were Spam, corn flakes, a bag of cheese, one can of cream of corn, and a lb of bacon. All 15 teams entered. The results will be annouced at the awards ceremony. Now everyone is going about the task of preparation, trimming of meats, trays, brine's, injections etc. Let the games begin and good luck to all. More tomorrow.

It's living up to the name "Big Chill". Really wanted to be there, but the long haul! Maybe next year. Good luck to everyone and enjoy it. John

Just made a quick call to PackerBacker, and sounds like everyone made it through the 30 degree temps last night. Dave said it was a bit windy though. Sure wish I was there, and not sitting on this computer in my basement...

Sampson, don't you have any chairs the Mrs. will let you set on? The computer must be uncomfortable.

I've been running all day working the LDS General Conference and haven't had a chance to wish everyone luck -- from the competitors and organizers and everyone else in between.

Very Sincerely,

Good job on the am session Lyle... In HD it's almost like you're there but only you can see everything better.

First, huge congrats to Joe & Gayle and Nick & Lindsay! What a joy it was to see Joe shed his bridesmaid dress and the Teton Valley team do so well.

I also want to recognize my buddy Shane Sapp of Quarter Ton BBQ for a great first showing. He cooked like a trooper and I'm really happy for him.

It was a nice little competition despite the nagging winds and overnight cold. I locked my keys in my truck and would have probably frozen to death if it weren't for Shane helping me out.

Thanks to Jim Monihan and Hoss for putting this cook together. Thanks also to all of you who came from Utah, Montana and far-flung parts of Idaho to cook with us. It was nice to see everyone.

Wow, what a first year contest!!!! I have to say we have some of the best people in our circle of freinds and cooks. You guys and gals are who made this contest a sucess. Team Ida Q and Ida Q jr, you rock! Even after the Friday snow storm and the bone chilling winds thorugh the night you all hung in there and help bring a great contest and showing to a small town that had before this weekend never seen anything like this. I can't tell you how many time I heard from people how nice and informative the cooks were.
While contest may come and go every year, it is truly cooks like yourselves that make it memorable for those not only cooking alongside you but the spectators as well. Cheers to you all! Heres to looking forward to next year!
